Overview

Job title: Senior Residential Practitioner (Kirkstall)

Employer: Leeds City Council

Salary: SO1 £34,434 - £36,363 pro rata

Hours: 37 per week

Contract: Permanent

Location: Kirkstall, Leeds

As our next Residential Practitioner, you’ll provide vital care to disadvantaged young people living in our 45 bed Kirkstall Accommodation. This role is an opportunity to transform vulnerable young lives and is both challenging and rewarding.

You’ll act as a role model for the young people in your care and for the team, supporting each care leaver’s journey to adulthood, independence and beyond. We are committed to promoting inclusion and brighter futures for our residents.

About You

As a Senior Residential Practitioner, you will bring to the role:

* NVQ Level 3 qualified (minimum) in Caring for Young People.
* QCF Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People Services or the commitment to undertake this qualification (funded).
* A clear understanding of young people’s needs within the supported accommodation service, including trauma-informed approach and crisis management skills.
* A flexible approach to work, as a rota shift system is in operation to meet changing needs.
* Leadership skills, experience of staff supervision, team development and training.


About The Role

You’ll use excellent communication skills to build positive relationships with vulnerable young people to support and guide them toward adulthood and independent living. The role involves varied activities from supporting residents with cooking and personal care to arts and crafts and gaming.

Your work will contribute to creating a safe, welcoming space where young people can heal, thrive and flourish. You will join a supportive team that prioritises wellbeing and development.

Internal responsibilities include staff supervision and appraisal, training and development of the team, and liaising with stakeholders in health and education. You will also contribute to developing the role positively.

Job Description

Job purpose: Lead the residential practitioner team supporting, encouraging and safeguarding children and young people in their development, enabling positive contributions to families and communities.

Responsibilities:

* Undertake key worker role, implement care plans, conduct risk assessments and devise health plans
* Provide a safe, stimulating living and learning environment
* Work with professionals and communities of origin to sustain links
* Nurture young people’s ambitions for their future and learning
* Support emotional, mental and physical health needs and self-esteem
* Maintain privacy while upholding duty of care and clean, safe living spaces
* Provide appropriate personal care for children and young people with disabilities and complex needs
* Ensure records are accurate, up to date and GDPR compliant
* Manage complex behaviour in an assertive, restorative and sensitive manner
* Promote restorative approaches to reduce criminalisation
* Day-to-day management including staff deployment and cover in the home
* Lead in planning and delivering opportunities for young people
* Supervise and develop staff; participate in recruitment, induction, training and support
* Administer medication in line with policy and supervise others
* Provide reports, minutes and attend/chair meetings as required
* Ability to work a rota including weekends and bank holidays; sleeping-in duties may be required
