The School of Medicine at Cardiff University seeks to appoint a Lecturer in Infectious Disease Epidemiology / Behavioural Science to join a newly established Translational Virology Unit. The successful candidate will develop an independent research program in basic and applied virology, focusing on public health infectious diseases, with expertise in epidemiology, clinical trials, behaviour change, qualitative methods, or working with marginalized populations.
The role involves developing collaborations, securing research funding, and contributing to teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including supervising students. The candidate should have a strong research reputation, a record of high-quality publications, and experience in obtaining research funding. The position is embedded within the WAVU, working across multiple divisions and collaborating with external partners.

Job Description
Main functions
Deliver high-quality, research-led teaching and contribute to the research profile of the School within the Wales Applied Virology Unit (WAVU).
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Conduct research in public health viral infectious diseases, publish in high-impact journals, secure funding, and supervise research staff and students.
* Develop research proposals and build networks through conferences and collaborations.
* Contribute to School research activities.
Teaching
* Contribute to module development.
* Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students, including acting as a Personal Tutor.
Other duties
* Engage with external partners and promote the School’s profile.
* Participate in administrative and promotional activities.
Scope of Job
Work within the Translational Virology Unit, collaborating across research disciplines and with NHS partners.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
* PhD or equivalent in a related field or relevant industrial experience.
* Postgraduate teaching qualification or equivalent experience.
* Proven research expertise in infectious disease epidemiology or related areas.
* Strong publication record and ability to secure research funding.
* Effective communication and pastoral skills.
Desirable Criteria
* Professional qualifications.
* Experience with industry collaborations.
* Ability to work independently and in interdisciplinary teams.
