Job Title: Locum Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine
Department/Clinical Service Unit: Anaesthetics and Critical Care
Location: Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
Applicants are invited to apply for a 12‑month fixed‑term post (01 Oct 2026 – 30 Sep 2027) in Intensive Care Medicine (ICM). The position will commence on 1 Oct 2026 to cover a 12‑month sabbatical and include 5 programmed activities (PAs), allowing the successful applicant to pursue complimentary activities. A specialist register with CCT (or equivalent) in ICM is required at interview.
This is a non‑exclusive locum appointment; the postholder may undertake additional employment elsewhere up to 0.5 WTE provided it does not conflict with duties, on‑call commitments, or governance requirements.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will join an existing team of 10 intensive care consultants with sub‑specialty interests in anaesthesia and acute medicine, responsible for the 10‑bed ICU. Opportunities exist to develop interests in echocardiography (TOE), ultrasound, research, governance, outreach, ICU follow‑up and NHS management. Job share arrangements with neighbouring trusts may be considered.
The unit also stabilises a high number of paediatric patients; an interest in paediatric critical care is advantageous.
On‑call commitments: 1 in 11 non‑residents for the ICU.
