Overview
As an Assistant Project Engineer in the Design and Prototyping Group (DPG) you will work in multidisciplinary project teams to design and develop innovative solutions for in‑house research, industrial partners and UK manufacturing supply chains. Projects range from concept development to prototype demonstrators.
Responsibilities
* Assist in providing technical support to the Digital Design Team to develop innovative digital solutions.
* Support the generation, documentation, and articulation of original design solutions for electronic and software product developments.
* Work on ideas and concepts as part of a team, generating innovative solutions to design problems.
* Outline initial ideas for digital design and build proof‑of‑concept prototypes, including software and hardware.
* Write and document software applications using programming languages such as Python, C++, and C.
* Utilise software development tools and IDEs.
* Use version control systems (Git) for efficient code management.
* Plan, manage, and construct prototypes using a range of materials and implementation techniques.
* Test design concepts by virtual prototyping or physical hands‑on testing of prototypes.
* Present work and discuss technical issues with team members and project partners.
* Research, collate, organise and edit material for inclusion in presentations and other documents.
* Work within the AMRC Quality Management and Health & Safety Systems.
* Carry out other duties commensurate with the grade and remit of the post.
Person Specification
Essential knowledge areas:
* Electronics engineering (sensor data acquisition, embedded processor system design, PCB design)
* Software development (C, C++, Python, HTML, MATLAB, NI LabVIEW)
* Digital prototyping
Essential criteria:
* Ability to manage own workload and organise activities.
* Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Takes initiative to deliver solutions and self‑teach when needed.
* Has completed work in an industrial environment.
* Ability to develop creative approaches to problem‑solving.
Desirable criteria:
* Experience of adapting your own skills to new circumstances.
* Enthusiasm for engineering and design.

* Salary: £23,742 – £24,685 per annum
* Work arrangement: Full time – 35 hours per week
