Senior Quantity Surveyor
We are working with a well‑established organisation operating within the UK power and utilities infrastructure sector, who are looking to appoint a Senior Quantity Surveyor on a permanent, full‑time basis in London.
The position offers a hybrid working arrangement, with a requirement to be present on site approximately three days per week. The successful individual will take on a senior commercial role on a major underground cable installation programme, supporting the delivery of a long‑term strategic infrastructure scheme valued at a significant level. The role carries responsibility for strong cost, contractual and commercial control under NEC forms of contract.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the commercial administration of NEC3 and NEC4 contracts, ensuring effective governance and contractual compliance
Take ownership of high‑value supply chain packages, including the assessment and agreement of variations, claims, and final accounts
Prepare and manage monthly commercial reporting, including CVRs, forecasts, and cost performance updates for senior leadership
Act as a commercial lead on the project, supporting and guiding Quantity Surveyors and Senior Quantity Surveyors within the team
Ensure all commercial records and systems are maintained accurately and in line with internal assurance and audit standards
Maintain a regular on‑site presence to support operational delivery, client liaison, and commercial decision‑making
Manage change processes including early warning notices, compensation events, and formal change control
Work closely with engineering, construction, and delivery teams to align cost, programme, and risk management
Develop productive working relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and client representatives
Essential Requirements
Strong background in commercial management or quantity surveying on live projects using NEC contracts
Demonstrated experience managing subcontractor accounts, including negotiation, commercial agreement, and close‑out
Proven capability in cost reporting, forecasting, and financial control
Degree‑qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline (RICS‑accredited desirable)
Technically astute, commercially aware, and highly detail‑focused
Experience delivering projects within utilities, power, cable route, civil engineering, or M&E environments
Confident mentoring and supporting junior members of a commercial team
Desirable
Chartered status or actively progressing towards RICS accreditation
