The Institute for Social and Economic Research (ISER) based at the University of Essex, wishes to appoint a Questionnaire Manager for the Study. (also known as the UK Household Longitudinal Study (UKHLS)) is the largest household panel study of its kind in the world, with an achieved sample size at Wave 1 of almost 40,000 households across the UK. is a flagship ESRC funded initiative, with the most recent funding awarded amounted to £100 million and covers waves 17-22 (ending 2032).
Duties of the role
The Questionnaire Manager will manage and develop the content and scripting for ’s complex surveys, leading a team to ensure projects are delivered on time and to a high standard. The role requires effective communication with a wide range of stakeholders, close collaboration with internal and external partners on questionnaire development and testing, oversight of technical and data analysis tasks, and responsibility for producing accessible tools and documentation for users. This position also promotes methodological innovation and continuous improvement in survey design, ensuring the ongoing relevance and quality of the study’s instruments as the study evolves.
Qualifications and skills required
You will hold a higher degree in survey methodology, social science research methods, or equivalent professional experience, alongside demonstrated expertise in complex questionnaire design for social surveys.
The ideal candidate will have experience in managing teams and collaborating on multidisciplinary projects. Knowledge of the challenges specific to longitudinal and mixed-mode surveys is required, and proficiency in statistical or programming software (e.g. Stata or R) is desirable.
