Overview
The UK’s Net Zero strategy demands rapid decarbonisation of the energy sector, which represents 24% of UK GHG emissions. As a fixed‑term Energy Advisor, you will help regulate the energy sectors to protect people and the environment from emissions, mitigate and adapt to climate change. The role lasts up to 2 years.
Key Responsibilities
 * Provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance and training.
 * Develop strategy for energy sectors and produce the tools to regulate, support development and deliver environmental outcomes.
 * Commission and manage external research projects where needed.
 * Work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations and other key industry players.
 * Respond to incidents; be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.
The Team
The Energy & COMAH team is part of the Energy and Manufacturing Industries Regulation Directorate. Our technical experts lead the definition of standards for the energy sectors, providing strategic direction, guidance and training, and environmental best practice.
Experience / Skills Required
 * Work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures; encourage others to consider diversity issues.
 * Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge and experience in regulating relevant processes, including control measures for emissions to air.
 * Build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies and academia.
 * Work cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals.

Additional Information
This vacancy closes at the end of October. Interviews are expected to be held in person in Birmingham by the end of November. The role may require some travel. Consent to be recruited onto a reserve list will hold your details for 6 months.
