Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled team member. This role is essential in supporting various landscaping and maintenance projects, ensuring that all tasks are completed to a high standard. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of technical knowledge and practical skills, with a passion for horticulture and outdoor work.

Duties

* Perform landscape maintenance tasks, including mowing, trimming, and planting to enhance the aesthetic appeal of outdoor spaces.
* Utilise mechanical knowledge to operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and heavy machinery such as excavators.
* To undertake, either individually, or as a member of a team, a range of horticulturally based maintenance activities including the cutting and strimming of grass, hedge cutting, pruning, planting and weed spraying
* Conduct general maintenance on equipment and tools to ensure they are in good working order.
* To carry out basic building maintenance tasks including painting and decorating, basic plumbing and drainage works.
* Emptying of litter bins and safe disposal of their contents.
* Follow safety protocols while operating machinery and handling tools to maintain a safe working environment.
* Inspection of play areas, public open spaces and football pitches for safety and cleanliness and to keep written records of these inspections.
* Locking and unlocking of buildings and facilities as required with responsibility for safeguarding keys and the security of property belonging to the Parish Council.
* To identify and note the main areas of litter pollution within the parish by visual inspection and to report any incidents of graffiti, vandalism or dog fouling to the Senior Maintenance Operator.
* To cover on overtime, the occasional evening meeting at The Grove when required.
* Conduct all duties in a safe and proper manner, as defined in the Safe Working Practices, Risk Assessments and Specific Site Rules, that may apply when working away from the depot.
* To carry out any other tasks which may be required as commensurate with the role.

Experience

* Previous experience in landscape maintenance or gardening is preferred but not essential.
* Driving license- Minimum requirement current valid UK driving license category B.
* Horticultural NVQ or relevant experience.
* Desirable qualifications: PA1 & PA6, NPTC Chainsaw certificate. Experienced ride on mower driver. RP11 ( or willing to gain) First Aid.
* Must be physically fit, able to walk, bend and lift bags, bins and other dumped items. Load and unload and carry and hold equipment whilst undertaking work. Ability to work on your own or part of a team. Must be literate and numerate in order to complete work documentation and time sheets. Ability to be flexible and start work at different times ( early mornings) when work loads demand.
* Experience and understanding of risk assessments.
* Familiarity with mechanical operations and the use of hand tools is advantageous.
* Experience operating excavators or similar heavy machinery is beneficial.
* Be prepared to work outside all year round in all weathers.
* Act with integrity and honesty, in line with the values and ethical standards of the Council.
* Act on own initiative to address issues, showing a strong work ethic and demonstrating extra effort when required. Remain calm and professional under pressure. Ask for and act on feedback, learning from experience and developing own professional skills and knowledge.
* High degree of awareness needed in respect of personal health and safety in relation to manual handling, sharps, dangerous materials and substances etc.
* Be approachable, developing positive working relationships. Treat people as individuals and with respect and dignity, dealing with them fairly and without prejudice regardless of their background or circumstances.
