Job Description
Your role:The Publishing Assistant role is central to The Times and The Sunday Times' video strategy, ensuring our content is packaged and presented in the most compelling way for YouTube and across our platforms. In this role you will be expected to use your knowledge of social video to create engaging thumbnails, sharp headlines and accurate copy that maximise discoverability and reach.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of how content performs on YouTube, with proven experience in tailoring video packaging for different audiences. You should be comfortable working across both lifestyle and news content, with a keen eye for detail and creativity in how stories are brought to life visually and editorially.
Key skills and responsibilities:
* Write clear, accurate and engaging copy for headlines, descriptions and social posts
* Create compelling thumbnails that draw viewers in while remaining true to our brand
* Build strong working relationships across the newsroom, collaborating with video producers, editors and audience teams
* Build and maintain video article pages on The Times website, ensuring they are optimised for SEO and user experience
* Excellent knowledge of Photoshop; mid-level skills in Premiere Pro desirable
* Understanding of YouTube Creator Studio and video analytics
* Awareness of current trends, the news cycle and digital storytelling techniques
* Ability to engage viewers with packaging that makes content stand out in a competitive environment
* Comfortable working with both fast-moving news and evergreen lifestyle content
* Ensure all packaging follows in-house style and maintains editorial standards
* Work on a rota that will include occasional weekends
