In order to meet the overall mission of the Trust, the post holder will:-Support the Ward Sister in her general management function and in the co-ordination of high quality services to patients and relatives.-Under the direction of the Ward Sister, lead in the development of all aspects of nursing within the unit, through the professional development of nursing staff, the implementation of evidence based practice and clinical audit.-Function as a principal support to the Ward Sister, who has continuing responsibility and deputising for the Ward Sister in her absence.-Work as part of a team to deliver a high-quality out Patient service, working across trust sites if and when required in hospital settings to include Craigavon Area Hospital, South Tyrone Hospital and Armagh Community Hospital.In particular, the post holder will have delegated responsibility for:-Providing day to day management and clinical leadership of the ward/department.-Ensuring consistent compliance with nursing KPIs/NQIs.-Ensuring Infection Prevention and Control standards are maintained at ward level.-Supporting the work of the EDON team in key aspects of staff retention at ward level.-The development and supervision of clinical practice.-The assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of nursing programmes and standards of care.-Teaching and supervision of nursing staff and health care support workers.-The co-ordination of high quality patient focused care-Ensure staff complies with professional and clinical policies, guidelines and protocols.-Provide professional, managerial and clinical leadership in the planning of person centred care..-Plan to deliver effective patient focused services which meet local, regional and national requirements.-Promote and monitor safe and effective care.-Enhance the patient/client experience.-Contribute to the delivery of the organisations objectives.


Responsibilities

* Adhere to DoH and NMC Guidelines for practice requirements and standards for example, safe handling, administration, storage and custody of medicinal products.
* Adhere to Trust guidelines, policies and procedures and comply with nursing strategy. A specific focus will be on all clinical audit activity relating to KPIS/NQIs and IPC.
* Ensure that organisational goals are reflected in own and service objectives and in unit/development plans.


Skills and Qualifications

* Registered Nurse on Part 1 of the live NMC Adult Register.
* Must have a Degree in Nursing and a minimum of 2 years post-registration experience within an Outpatient Department Setting.
* OR Must have a Degree in Nursing and a minimum of 2 years post-registration experience within an Outpatient Department Setting.
