Job Summary
Whole‑time Consultant in General Internal Medicine and Diabetes & Endocrinology at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, based at NGH. We welcome applicants across the full spectrum of experience, from newly qualified to well‑established careers. Candidates who cannot work full‑time may be considered on a personal basis with the Trust.
Job Responsibilities
The post has been developed as part of a broader re‑organisation and expansion of the Department of Medicine. It involves overseeing General (Internal) Medicine wards and providing high‑quality care to patients with diabetes and endocrinology needs. The role includes teaching, training, audit and research activities, and works in close partnership with Respiratory Medicine, Gastroenterology and Acute Medicine.

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
* Registered (or eligible to be registered) with the GMC with a licence to practice
* Postgraduate professional qualifications MRCP or equivalent
* Name on the specialist register for relevant speciality or eligible within 6 months of interview (CCT required for UK trainees)
Desirable Qualifications
* MD, PhD or equivalent
Essential Clinical Experience
* Independent practitioner in the specialty covered by the post
* Broad clinical experience in general internal medicine and any specific experience required for diabetes & endocrinology
Desirable Clinical Experience
* Published research in peer‑reviewed journals
Essential Research, Teaching & Development
* Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice
* Experience teaching student doctors and doctors in training at all levels
* Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months
Desirable Research & Development
* Completion and publication of a substantive audit or service improvement project
* Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio
Essential Management & Governance
* Understanding of NHS management systems and structures
* Experience performing clinical audit
Desirable Management & Governance
* Experience working with management groups
Personal Attributes
* Demonstrates behaviour consistent with PROUD values
* Good written communication skills
Other Requirements
* Disclosure and Barring Service check as required by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975

Contract and Salary
Consultant grade, permanent contract, full‑time. Salary £109,725 to £145,478 per annum (Hospital medical and dental staff pay scheme).
