Senior clinical development fellow in general medicine

Crosshouse
NHS Ayrshire & Arran
Posted: 1 October
Offer description

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

University Hospitals, Crosshouse and Ayr are large district general hospitals based in Ayrshire, central Scotland. Crosshouse is situated 35 minutes south of Glasgow. The total catchment population is around 375,000. We wish to appoint a Senior Clinical Development Fellow within the department of medicine at University Hospital Crosshouse. Candidates ready for an immediate start are ideal but applicants who wish for a delayed start are welcome. The post will run until 4 August 2026.

Applications are invited from doctors for the position of Senior CDF in Medicine in NHS Ayrshire and Arran who have successfully completed the Internal Medicine Training (IMT) programme or are currently working at IMT level 3. This post would also be suitable for those who have completed at least 2 years of the UK Internal Medicine Training Programme or its equivalent and are looking to apply for Higher Specialist Training. They must hold full MRCP (UK).

The aim of this post is to provide development opportunities for the post-holders, while supporting key service areas in relation to the provision of clinical care by a trained doctor workforce. The post will provide experience in the management of acutely unwell medical patients and development of procedural skills. The posts, although not recognised for training, are structured to allow post-holders the opportunity to further develop their medical career.

This post is likely to appeal to applicants who:

* Wish to complete an alternative certificate of completion of competencies. The post will provide knowledge and experience in the assessment and management of acutely unwell medical patients with the opportunity to be involved in medical HDU.
* Are seeking further experience in medical specialties before applying to Higher Specialty Training. Given the broad range of medical specialties available at University Hospital Crosshouse, there are extensive learning opportunities to facilitate this.

There will be regular opportunities to perform and develop procedural skills. Participation in departmental quality improvement, audit and research work will be encouraged, thereby strengthening your CV. The post will provide excellent experience for those wishing to apply to any of the medical specialties. Within the constraints of service requirements, we will tailor the job to suit your requirements. It is likely that the post will be rotational through two specialties but can remain within one specialty if this aligns with the applicant's goals more closely.

During the tenure of the appointment, post-holders will have a minimum of 4 hours per week development time and access to a £1250 study budget (pro rata) to support them with attainment of their career aims. A 40% pay banding supplement will be paid to recognise contribution to out-of-hours working; the core salary will be based on a salary range of £45,504 - £71,550. The posts are not recognised for national training. Applicants must hold Full GMC Registration with a current Licence to Practice by the time of appointment and have a minimum of 12 months paid NHS experience. They must hold MRCP and be able to act at Registrar level, including working with remote supervision out of hours.

Prospective applicants are encouraged to make contact with: Dr Kati Carroll, Lead for Doctor to Doctor Recruitment (Kati.Carroll@aapct.scot.nhs.uk) or Dr Claire Shepherd, GIM Rota Lead (Claire.Shepherd@aapct.scot.nhs.uk).

Please note that these posts do not carry educational approval with the Dean.
