Hours: X3 37hrs Full Time
Working Style: Your workstyle will be a mobile hybrid worker in this role which gives you the flexibility to work from home and from a variety of Council workplaces.
We are currently seeking motivated, driven individuals with excellent customer care skills to join our team as Council Tax Officers.
As a Council Tax Officer you&ll be part of a busy team dealing with Council Tax accounts ensuring you contribute to the Council delivering an effective billing, collection, and recovery process. You'll take a customer focused approach to maximising revenue whilst making sure we meet our legal and statutory requirements.
You'll provide a professional service assisting taxpayers with a variety of queries in relation to the correct billing and collection of Council Tax. This role can be challenging, you will be dealing with sensitive financial matters in a busy working environment involving continuous change. However, you'll be playing a crucial role in supporting the Council in maximising its financial resources which assists in funding and delivering services to residents in the borough.
The main duties of the post;
1. To develop and maintain a high standard of technical knowledge in Council Tax administration.
2. To ensure taxpayers are billed accurately with all relevant discounts and exemptions in a timely manner
3. To provide a high standard of customer care in a busy and demanding environment.
4. To undertake general activities in relation to the administration and recovery of Council Tax including :
5. Processing amendments to accounts
6. Issuing of bills, reminders, summons and liability orders
7. Interviewing tax payers face to face
8. Dealing with tax payers by phone / email and letter.
9. Processing direct debits mandates, unpaid direct debits including liaison with bank / building societies
10. Recommend write offs
11. To carry out site inspections and visits for various purposes as required.
12. Maintain work records and provide management with statistical information as and when required.
13. To ensure all avenues of the recovery process are explored in order to maximise the authority&s income
About you:
Do you have:
14. Sound financial and numeracy skills
15. Excellent computer skills and be fully conversant with all Microsoft packages
16. Experience of working within a busy team to tight deadlines
17. Experience of dealing with the public/customer.
18. A minimum of 4 GCSE&s or equivalent which must include Maths and English grade C or above.
