Overview
The Medical Illustration Photography Service is seeking an enthusiastic individual to join their team at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust. The successful candidate will contribute towards providing a high-quality service to the Trust. A considerable amount of work is undertaken in the studio but also in wards, clinics and operating theatres. The role involves cross-site and community working across three hospital sites in the Sandwell and West Birmingham area, as well as a variety of local Community GP practices, so having your own transport would be preferable.
Responsibilities
* Undertake clinical photography with speed, dexterity and accuracy in the studio and on location including wards, outpatient's clinics, operating theatres, mortuary, etc., within Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust and at other associated sites.
* Photograph pathology specimens.
* General ophthalmic photography using a retinal fundus camera.
* Diabetic retinal screening photography using a non-mydriatic camera.
* Provide basic advice and guidance interpreting legislation and policy guidelines to Trust staff regarding consent, confidentiality and photography when required.
* Ensure that work passing through the department is of a highly professional nature and that confidentiality rules are adhered to at all times.
* Maintain quality and standards within the department.
* Support the Medical Illustration Service in advancing departmental, divisional and Trust objectives.
* Provide advice and explanation of photographic procedures to patients/relatives, including those whose first language is not English or who are emotionally volatile.
* Use tact and diplomacy when discussing with distressed patients/relatives the need to co-operate with photographic procedures, especially during invasive techniques or highly charged, emotional situations such as child abuse, foetal deaths or emergencies in A&E/ITU.
Qualifications
* Degree in Photography or equivalent knowledge and experience of digital photography.
* Ophthalmic photography experience would be an advantage but is not essential, as ongoing training in this area will be provided.
Additional Information
We provide a photography service over three hospital sites in the Sandwell and West Birmingham area as well as a variety of local Community GP practices, so cross-site working is a feature of the role. It is preferable to have your own transport due to cross-site and community working.
