Clinical Fellow, Doctor (Neuromuscular Diseases)

A one‑year, full‑time clinical fellowship to attain advanced specialist clinical skills across the spectrum of neuromuscular diseases. The Fellow will provide inpatient and outpatient care, perform assessments, investigations, management and follow‑up of patients with acquired and inherited neuromuscular disorders. Multi‑disciplinary engagement with specialist nursing, OT, physiotherapy, neuropsychology, neuropathology, neuroradiology and neurophysiology is integral to daily practice. The Fellow will attend national and international neuromuscular courses and conferences and may undertake an audit, quality improvement or research project.
Main Duties
* Primary day‑to‑day care of neuromuscular patients, including admission and discharge assessment and clerking.
* Attend consultant ward rounds.
* Attend outpatient clinics.
* Participate in MDT meetings.
* Provide neurological assessment and clerking at admission and discharge of all patients.
* Engage with specialist nursing, OT, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, neuropsychology, neuro‑ophthalmology, neuroradiology, neurophysiology, laboratory neuroimmunology and neuro‑intensive care.
* Work closely with the plasma exchange team and neuro‑pharmacists.
* Participate in the weekly encephalitis MDT.
* Attend national and international neuromuscular courses and conferences.
* Present original research work in these settings.
* Develop an audit, quality improvement or clinical research project under senior supervision.
Qualifications
* Full registration with the GMC.
* MRCP or equivalent.
* Completion of CMT training or equivalent, and two years of higher specialty training in neurology or stroke.
* Eligibility for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practise.
* Knowledge of confidentiality, data protection, Good Clinical Practice and GDPR.
* Experience working in the NHS.
* Understanding of research methodology.
* IT proficiency at advanced user level (Spreadsheet, Word Processing, Database, Email).
* Completion of projects, audit, quality improvement and service developments related to Neurology.

* Communicate effectively and compassionately with patients from diverse backgrounds and clinical needs.
* Excellent written and oral communication with colleagues within a multidisciplinary ethos.
* Good interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively in a multidisciplinary setting.
