Senior MRI/Neuro Radiographer – University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust
Responsibilities
* Use the full range of radiographic equipment within the departments including neuro-angiography, IR, CT and MRI.
* Achieve and maintain a high standard of imaging and support the out-of-hours service by assisting with 24-hour cover arrangements.
* Perform complex neuro-radiography procedures within CT, MRI and neuro-angiography environments.
* Maintain expert clinical practice and support colleagues to deliver high standards in all imaging techniques; provide and tutor others as needed.
* Advise on MRI safety issues, including guidance regarding neurosurgical/endovascular implants; train in Neuro-Angiography/IR suites and adapt techniques as required, knowing when to change protocols and provide appropriate advice to colleagues.
* Understand interventional techniques used in Neuro-Angiography/IR suites and respond quickly to changes in a patient’s condition; liaise with the radiologist for clinical input and ensure changes of practice are documented and communicated.
* Ensure a safe working environment and adherence to local department policies; understand and follow CT, MRI and angiography local rules (IR(ME)R, IR17), MHRA codes of practice, guidance notes, and Health and Safety at Work Act for staff, patients and the public.
* Theatre radiography duties include using mobile fluoroscopy to image during neurosurgical operative procedures; manipulate equipment to optimise imaging for the referring surgeon.
* Perform fluoroscopy procedures including interventional techniques; assist in preparation of patients and equipment using sterile techniques; acquire and maintain competence in intravenous cannulation, venepuncture and intravenous therapy in line with department policies; liaise with the Superintendent Radiographer in charge.
* Promote a patient-focused service in a caring manner; communicate clearly with patients and carers to minimise radiation exposure.
* Work in accordance with practitioners’ guidelines for general radiography, CT head scans, CT Renal Colic, CT C-spines/T-spines and CT Trauma scans.
* Be flexible to participate in 24-hour cover and extended-day rotas on the RSCH site.
