We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our community of tech experts in DWP Digital.

You and your role
This role involves leading from within, helping shape how DWP's Business Audit team approaches data engineering, without a formal leadership title. You'll translate technical requirements into workable solutions, especially during platform migrations and system upgrades.
You'll work closely with data engineers, offering guidance, sharing ideas, and helping steer our work.
Collaboration is key, so you'll connect with teams across Digital and the wider Data & Analytics space to keep things aligned.
There is variety in this role — redesigning ETL pipelines to boost performance or supporting a shift to new data platforms or architectures.
You will be involved in big-picture thinking about adopting modern tools and patterns, as well as day-to-day operations.
You will also help grow the team, mentor others, promote best practices, and influence our working methods, priorities, and delivery.
Skills, knowledge, and experience needed
* Comfortable with programming languages like Python, SQL, and Proc SQL, especially SAS, SAS Enterprise Guide, and Informatica.
* Skilled at troubleshooting complex data and code issues.
* Experience designing, building, testing, and documenting programs and scripts, especially complex or iterative ones.
* Confident leading ETL pipeline development, even with large datasets, and delegating tasks efficiently.
* Able to guide data and code reviews to maintain quality and resolve issues quickly.
* Set and maintain standards for data and code work, ensuring team adherence.

Location: Join us at one of our digital hubs in Birmingham, Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle, or Sheffield.
Hybrid Working: Work partly from home and partly in a hub.
Pay: Up to £73,517.
Pension: Civil service pension with 28.97% employer contributions.
Holidays: Starting at 26 days, rising to 27 after one year, plus up to 3 flexi-days per month and public holidays.
