This role is well suited for someone who enjoys working autonomously and meeting customers. You will be based within 30 minutes of Gainsborough or Scunthorpe and surrounding villages; uniform and a van are provided.
What does it take to be a Metering Technician?
We are looking for customer focused individuals who are based within 30 minutes of Gainsborough or Scunthorpe and surrounding villages. The role requires professional appearance, as you will be representing a leading UK water provider; uniform and a van are provided. The role can be physically demanding, with daily walking of approximately 3 to 8 miles. You will use a handheld computer to carry out your work. Hours are flexible between 6:30 to 20:00 Monday to Friday and 08:00 to 14:00 on Saturdays, including early starts and late evenings when customers are most likely to be at home.
The Metering Technician will act as the customer’s champion, ensuring that all customer-driven meter reading queries, planned meter readings and boundary box meter exchanges are completed within service levels while maintaining customer service and quality. They will identify and report reactive work to enable completion within service levels and ensure billing information amendments are reported to improve customer service.
The Metering Technician will complete meter reading operations by ensuring all meters are read accurately, maintaining records, and ensuring maximum efficiency and productivity. They will identify and report maintenance jobs, meter exchanges, and potential leaks, liaising with the customer as appropriate.
The Metering Technician will perform non-routine reading and income-related operations such as flow tests to confirm correct supply connections, replace lids, complete void inspections, and confirm correct plots to postal addresses.
The Metering Technician will complete meter exchange operations efficiently and cost-effectively, aware of any impact to the customer, escalating incidents that may affect the water network and ensuring all work complies with regulations. Ensure new and old meters are tracked and stocks are maintained.
The Metering Technician will comply with all health and safety regulations, ensuring safety of themselves and the public, provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers, and contribute to positive team and cross-team working.
