This role offers an experienced electrical engineer the opportunity to join the Environment Agency’s Standards and Engineering team as a Senior Electrical Engineer. Candidates should possess knowledge of high, medium, low and extra‑low voltage electrical systems and equipment, and expertise in control systems design, SCADA and telemetry systems would be beneficial.
Responsibilities
Working within our Standards, Asset Management and Engineering Directorate, you will influence and shape how we deliver our service into the future. As part of our Technical Authority, you will provide technical engineering leadership and support to the whole organisation to meet our objectives of safe, reliable and sustainable assets and meet our commitments to net zero carbon.
You will manage, develop and maintain electrical engineering standards, including safety rules for HV and LV power systems and control systems within assets such as pumping stations, water management, flood defence structures and monitoring sites.
You will help develop, deliver and maintain competency and skills guidance for all employees managing or carrying out work on our electrical systems and equipment.
In addition, you will hold a national incident response role which may require work outside normal hours.

Experience / Skills Required
 * A good working knowledge of the Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671 IET wiring regulations.
 * A good working knowledge of control systems, including the application of IEC 61508, IEC 62061 and BS EN 13489, and telemetry / SCADA systems.
 * Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
 * Knowledge and experience in the development and delivery of safe systems of work, risk assessments and method statements.
 * Testing and isolation of high and low voltage electrical systems and proving dead.
 * Strong understanding of a risk‑based approach to electrical maintenance philosophies and implementation, including the application of Failure Mode Effects Analysis, reliability systems and processes.
 * Drafting and publishing of electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
 * Excellent work management, team working and communication skills.
