Role: Infrastructure Cloud Engineer
Location: Milton Keynes / Hybrid - 2 days per week in the office
Reporting to: Head of IT Infrastructure
The Role:
We are seeking a hands-on and experienced Infrastructure Cloud Engineer with a strong foundation in traditional on-premise Infrastructure to join our growing IT Team. This role is central to transforming and migrating our existing infrastructure into a scalable, resilient and modern cloud-based environment. As part of a small, multi-skilled team you will also contribute skills and knowledge across a wide range of adjacent cloud technologies. This is a key role with significant influence on the future direction of our technology landscape.
What you'll be doing:
1. Infrastructure Transformation:
Play a key role in the migration and modernisation of existing on-premise infrastructure to a scalable, cloud-native environment in Microsoft Azure.
2. Infrastructure-as-code & automation:
Design, implement and manage Terraform and Ansible based infrastructure automation, helping the team improve consistency, reliability, and speed of deployment across both cloud and on-premise environments
3. Collaboration with Security:
Partner with the security team to embed robust security practices and monitoring tools into the infrastructure, ensuring all systems meet compliance, resilience, and audit standards.
4. Tooling and optimisation:
Identify and implement new tools and technologies to improve system monitoring, performance, and operational efficiency across both on-prem and cloud-based infrastructure.
5. Cross-Technology support: As part of a small, flexible technology team, take ownership of a broad set of responsibilities, including infrastructure support, scripting,
Intune, and automation tooling - stepping outside your core remit as needed to support team and business goals.
6. Hands-on project delivery:
Lead and contribute to infrastructure-focused projects from planning through to delivery, ensuring they are executed efficiently, meet business requirements, and are aligned with technical standards.
7. Documentation and knowledge sharing:
Maintain accurate technical documentation and contribute to the team’s knowledge base, ensuring that systems are well understood, and knowledge is shared across the team.
We're looking for someone with:
8. Extensive experience in IT infrastructure, including on-premise servers, networking, storage and active directory / Entra ID
9. Strong expertise in Microsoft Azure, including experience with cloud migration, virtual networking, identity and resource management
10. Experience with Azure Stack HCI / Azure Local
11. Hands-on experience with automation and infrastructure-as-code tooling including Terraform, Ansible and PowerShell
12. Good understanding of security principles and proven experience with collaborating with security teams with a focus on Infrastructure hardening, monitoring and compliance
13. Familiarity with endpoint management solutions such as Microsoft Intune, and a willingness to support broader IT systems beyond core infrastructure.
14. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to take ownership of complex infrastructure challenges from design through to implementation
15. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
16. Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment and manage multiple priorities.
What you'll bring to the role:
17. A solid track record of hands-on infrastructure engineering, with experience in migrating traditional on-prem systems to Microsoft Azure in complex environments.
18. Deep knowledge of both cloud and on-premise infrastructure, including servers, networking, Identity, and storage technologies.
19. Proficiency with Infrastructure-as-Code and automation using Terraform, Ansible, and PowerShell.
20. Experience working in small, agile technology teams, showing the ability to contribute across a broad range of tools and platforms, including areas outside your core remit.
21. Strong understanding of IT security practices and experience working alongside security teams to ensure infrastructure is resilient and compliant.
22. A hands-on approach to infrastructure modernisation, with an emphasis on monitoring, automation, and operational efficiency.
23. Mastery in implementing and utilising advanced monitoring and automation tools to enhance IT operations.
24. Excellent problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills, with the ability to operate independently and take initiative in a dynamic environment.
