About the Role
Mechanical Engineer – Westhill with Hybrid Working, Full‑Time, Permanent. This role requires security checks.
To provide engineering design solutions and through‑life engineering support to the JFD product range. Workload can vary from new product design to meet client or internal specifications to supporting an existing client’s request to upgrade or change equipment in the field.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Assess technical queries and provide engineering design input to new products and support the existing product range.
* Liaise with internal JFD departments such as sales, procurement, and production to ensure the best technical solution is provided in all instances.
* Sourcing suitable components and materials when required and creating part numbers and bills of materials.
* Creating engineering documentation such as specifications, proposals, assembly instructions, test procedures, certification and reports.
* Checking detailed manufacturing drawings and documentation for adherence to company standards, internal and external standards & regulations.
* Ensuring engineering solutions are delivered on time and on budget.
* Site visits to other JFD offices and client assets as required.
* Acting as the technical checker of drawings and documentation generated in support of the mechanical engineer role.
What We’re Looking For
* Ability to demonstrate experience in a similar role.
* Skill in generating design calculations.
* Experience working with DFA (Design for Assembly) and DFM (Design for Manufacturing).
* Experience performing FEA structural analysis using suitable software (e.g., ANSYS).
* Experience manufacturing prototype components and taking a design from concept to validation.
* Good knowledge of manufacturing techniques.
* Good knowledge of gas and fluid systems.
* Knowledge of design standards and industry guidelines such as IMCA.
* Experience working to marine, defence standards and class society rules (mainly LR and DNV).
* Product design experience is advantageous.
* Experience with a Product Lifecycle Management system for generating and storing engineering packages.
* Previous diving equipment design experience is advantageous.
* Mechanical engineering degree or equivalent industry experience.
