Your role
We are looking for a first‑class Deputy Foreign Editor to join Fleet Street’s most dynamic digital news operation. This senior position is based within the Foreign News team and oversees agenda‑setting scoops, long‑form human interest pieces, video projects and breaking coverage of major international events.
Day to day you will

 * Collaborate with social, audience and homepage teams to optimise stories for each platform.
 * Make ruthless story‑selection decisions to build traffic and reach new audiences worldwide.
 * Spot and create compelling headlines that differentiate The Sun from its rivals.
 * Identify and nurture trends that keep our coverage ahead of the competition.
 * Source and produce stories for lifestyle, tech, consumer and feature departments, complementing hard news.
 * Turn around stories quickly and accurately while adhering to IPSO and legal standards.
 * Train reporters to ensure sharp, accurate copy and effective use of pictures, video and graphics.
 * Work with stringers to secure agenda‑setting scoops and exclusives that resonate with millions of readers worldwide.
 * Partner with picture, video and graphics desks to deliver the most impactful storytelling.
What we’re looking for from you
 * Senior experience on a news desk or foreign news department in a fast‑paced newsroom.
 * A passion for global news and current affairs.
 * Ability to independently identify exclusives and original feature ideas.
 * Awareness of SEO, social audiences and the ability to recirculate readers within The Sun to keep them engaged.
 * Unflappability under pressure.
Life at News
We are driven by passion, guided by principles and act with purpose. We represent, reflect and reach the nation by telling the stories that matter. To resonate with a broad audience, our organisation reflects the diverse voices of the society we serve – across age, gender, ethnicity, disability, social class and sexuality. We support a culture where everyone can contribute and thrive, and we champion our Diversity Strategy.
At News UK we take pride in employee‑led networks that foster collaboration and support. Networks include African & Caribbean Network, Parents and Carers, LGBTQ+ group News Is Out and the Apprentice Society.
Benefits
 * Private medical insurance including coverage for pre‑existing conditions.
 * Discounted gym memberships, free ClassPass at Home and weekly in‑person/virtual exercise classes.
 * Bikes for Work and an electric car scheme.
 * Up to 60% discount on HarperCollins books.
 * Maternity leave up to 18 weeks at full basic salary and paternity leave up to 2 weeks.
 * Access to exclusive events and competitions with brands such as talkSPORT, Virgin Radio UK & The Times, and weekly virtual panel chats with top journalists and celebrities.
 * Well‑being benefits such as EAP, physio/massage and counselling.
 * A generous pension scheme with employer contributions of up to 5%.
 * Wide range of training available, plus full LinkedIn Learning access.
