Consultant Cellular Pathologist / Histopathologist
Full Time 10 PA substantive post x 1 in Cardiothoracic Pathology and non Gynaecological Cytology
Applications are invited for a replacement Consultant Cellular Pathologist / Histopathologist post in the Department of Cellular Pathology at Barts Health NHS Trust. The appointment is to provide Histopathology reporting within cardiothoracic pathology and non gynaecological cytology for Barts Health and the other hospitals for which we undertake service provision. Together, our hospitals - Newham University Hospital, St Bartholomew’s, The Royal London and Whipps Cross - deliver high quality clinical care to the people of East London and further afield. The upheaval of COVID-19 has provided our consultant team with the opportunity to implement flexible working, both geographic and temporal, enabling us to deliver an efficient service in spite of the restrictions of lockdown
Main duties of the job

The appointment is to provide Histopathology reporting within cardiothoracic pathology and non gynaecological cytology for Barts Health and the other hospitals for which we undertake service provision. Together, our hospitals - Newham University Hospital, St Bartholomew’s, The Royal London and Whipps Cross - deliver high quality clinical care to the people of East London and further afield. The upheaval of COVID-19 has provided our consultant team with the opportunity to implement flexible working, both geographic and temporal, enabling us to deliver an efficient service in spite of the restrictions of lockdown. Going forward, we hope to retain and capitalise upon these changes which we feel allow us to maintain a healthy work-life balance whilst continuing to provide an excellent service for our users, both of which are major priorities for our Department. Our digital capabilities are expanding and we are in the process of implementing large volume slide scanning, remote frozen section macroscopy and reporting, and glass / paper free working.

The post is based in the state-of-the-art Pathology and Pharmacy building at the Royal London hospital in Whitechapel. Cellular pathology services are provided along specialist lines. The department provides a high quality service and the appointee will be a full and active member of the team.
Applicants are required to hold full GMC registration with a licence to practice and to be on the GMC’s Specialist Register or within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of interview.

Qualifications and knowledge
Essential criteria
1. MBBS/MB ChB or equivalent
2. FRCPath or evidence of equivalent qualification
3. Full and specialist registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or eligible for registration within six months of interview)
4. Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
5. Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT
Experience
Essential criteria
6. Thorough and broad training and experience in Histopathology, with experience in Cardiothoracic pathology and non gynae cytology
7. Ability to take responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision
8. Undertaken audit projects
Desirable criteria
9. Thorough understanding of the principles of medical audit
10. Attendance at management course
Skills
Essential criteria
11. Knowledge and experience of Cellular Pathology / Haematopathology
12. Broad range of IT skills
13. Knowledge of evidence-based practice
14. Professional attitude towards work, reliability, good attendance record and tidy personal appearance

15. Experience of undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching or training
Desirable criteria
16. Experience of undergraduate and/or postgraduate exam preparation
