Overview

Associate/ Associate Director (Roads) role at WSP in the UK & Ireland. Based in Belfast.


What you will do

Provide technical leadership to design teams, deliver quality work to time and budget, mentor junior team members and lead multiple design teams. Collaborate with the Roads team and the wider Transport and Infrastructure business to achieve aims and objectives. Develop strong client relationships, proactively manage expectations and advise on technical solutions. Ensure compliance with Health & Safety and Environmental legislation and in-house quality assurance standards/processes. Allocate resources and help set up teams to maximise contribution to project goals.


Responsibilities

* Support the Midlands Group Director with leadership and business development.
* Oversee multi-disciplinary projects of varying scale, complexity and value, managing budget and financial performance.
* Work directly with clients, developing strong trusted relationships, proactively managing their expectations and comprehensively advising them.
* Undertake technical preparation, review and checking of deliverables.
* Work collaboratively with the Roads team and our colleagues in the wider Transport and Infrastructure business to achieve our aims and objectives.
* Use technical ability to support others to maximise their personal contribution to project/team goals.
* Lead and manage staff in the delivery of design drawings, standard construction details, specifications and bill of quantities; support the preparation of tender packages.
* Responsible for compliance with Health & Safety and Environmental Legislation and in-house quality assurance standards/processes.
* Be actively involved with team resource coordination, supporting the setup of teams and placing the right people in the right roles.


What we will be looking for

* A broad range of project experience, both within civil engineering and multi-disciplinary projects, focusing on highways.
* Ability to use, direct and check design outputs in Autodesk Civils 3D, Bentley OpenRoads Designer, InfoDrainage and/or PDS.
* Demonstrate ability to improve, motivate and encourage others, lead and implement change programmes, inspiring colleagues and drive an innovative and supportive culture.
* Commercial and strategic capability with a demonstrable track record in identifying and delivering new business opportunities.
* Proactive management of change on tasks/projects, clearly communicating potential impacts on programme, cost, and quality.
* Influential and persuasive internally and externally; encourages open dialogue and feedback.
* Preferably able to obtain UK vetting level of Security Check (SC).
* Proven ability to lead a single or multiple design disciplines in relevant projects (i.e. roads, public transport, active travel, development).
* Experience of contract document preparation or contract administration/site supervision using Public Works Contracts.
* Strong client/stakeholder management and interpersonal skills.
* Chartered Civil Engineer or Incorporated Engineer with extensive post-qualification experience.
* Thorough understanding and application of relevant design codes (e.g., Design Manual for Roads & Bridges, Manual for Streets, TSRGD, local guidance) and experience in preparing drawings for contract documentation and technical approvals, including departures from standard.
* Experience of Designers' duties under CDM regulations.
