The site in Milton Keynes has a long and successful history of design and development of low power DC-DC converters and wound magnetics products.
The main function of this job is to design and develop DC-DC converters and AC-DC converters.
Design 1-30W isolated DC-DC converters and AC-DC converters for Industrial, Energy, Medical, and Automotive applications.
Lead design projects from kick-off through to manufacturing introduction.
Assist in creating design specifications, working closely with the Business Development department to exceed the customer’s expectations.
Assist with training and mentoring the engineering team.
Solve complex technical/commercial issues, working closely with all engineering disciplines within the company.
Ensure the company’s commercial expectations are realised, optimising product costs throughout the development process.
Work closely with our production and test engineering teams to ensure that products are suitable for mass production.
Design the converters to meet the relevant safety standards.
Maintain project plans and report on the progress of project work as requested by the section Manager.
Take part in design reviews and be involved in the technical decision-making process.
Asist with legacy product support, providing technical support to the Production, Business Development, and Quality teams.
Always adhere to the company’s quality standards.
A formal qualification equivalent to a UK degree level in Electronics, Microelectronics, Physics, or a related discipline. Candidates with a HND or HNC in a related discipline will also be considered if they have relevant experience.
1-5 years’ experience of electronics design, preferably power conversion or analog IC design (depending on level).
An understanding of best practices related to mechanical design considerations within the electronics industry.
Experience of conducting laboratory-based testing.
Experience designing electronic components for volume manufacture.
Can work to clear timescales and lead a cross functional team to deliver projects on time.
An ability to work on projects with tough product cost targets.
Can multi-task and cope with a degree of pressure in a professional engineering environment.
Fluent in both written and spoken English.
IT literate.
Knowledge of modern power conversion design techniques applicable to DC-DC and AC-DC converters from 1W to 100W.
Has a sound theoretical understanding of analogue electronics and magnetics, including transformer design.
Experience in thermal/magnetic simulation using finite element analysis software.
Knowledge of IC packaging technologies.
