What you’ll be doing
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Communications Planning: Support the External Comms Director in developing, implementing, and refining external communications strategies for Finance, Strategy & Responsible Business (FS&RB), ensuring alignment with BT’s broader corporate affairs objectives.
2. Message Development: Lead the creation of clear, compelling, and consistent messaging tailored to different audiences and communication channels, reinforcing BT’s corporate narrative and strategic priorities.
3. Content Creation & Oversight: Draft and manage high-quality communications materials including press releases, media briefings, executive scripts, Q&As, backgrounders, and social media content for both external and internal stakeholders.
4. Campaign Execution: Plan and deliver proactive PR campaigns and communications activities that showcase BT’s strategic momentum, financial performance, and responsible business initiatives.
5. Reputation & Issues Management: Monitor for emerging reputational risks, support crisis communications responses, and contribute to the development of mitigation strategies to protect BT’s brand and credibility.
6. Stakeholder & Media Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders including senior BT leaders, journalists, industry analysts, and colleagues across corporate functions to support storytelling and reputation management.
7. Agency & Supplier Management: Coordinate with external PR agencies, media monitoring services, and other suppliers to ensure effective delivery of communications plans and timely reporting.
8. Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams across Corporate Affairs (e.g. internal comms, content & channels, public affairs) and business functions (e.g. Finance, Strategy, Legal, Responsible Business) to ensure integrated and aligned communications.
9. Leadership Support: Provide strategic counsel to BT leaders on external communications matters and deputise for the FS&RB External Comms Director when required.

Experience
22. Significant experience in corporate or financial communications within a FTSE 100 company or equivalent
23. PR agency experience supporting FTSE clients
24. Experience translating financial information for external audiences
25. Exposure to strategic decision-making and communications planning
26. Evidence of providing communications advice to senior leaders
27. Experience managing or contributing to crisis communications
28. Familiarity with media engagement and relationship-building
29. Some experience in people leadership or team enablement (beneficial but not essential)
