SEMH Teaching Assistant (Primary & Secondary) | Hertfordshire
Immediate start or January | Full-time (term time) | Competitive day rate (PAYE)
The role
Support pupils with Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) needs across class, small groups and 1:1. You’ll help stabilise behaviour, build routines, and remove barriers to learning in a calm, consistent way.
What you’ll do
* De-escalate and support regulation using agreed strategies (restorative practice, Zones, visuals)
* Run targeted interventions (literacy/numeracy/emotional literacy)
* Track simple progress notes and follow pupil support plans/EHCPs
* Keep classrooms safe and structured; prep resources and assist with transitions
* Work closely with teachers, SENCO and external agencies; liaise with parents when needed
What you’ll bring
* Recent experience with SEMH/PRU/Alternative Provision or strong mainstream behaviour support
* Confident, calm communication and firm but fair boundaries
* Resilience, patience and reliability—able to follow behaviour plans
* Team Teach/MAPA or similar (or willingness to train)
* Right to work in the UK; Enhanced DBS (or willing to apply)
