The Opportunity
At Hinkley Point C (HPC), we are building two new nuclear reactors—the first of a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK, providing low-carbon electricity for around six million homes. We are looking for an Operational Development Engineer within the Operations Procedures Team, in the Operations Department at HPC.
As an Operational Development Engineer, you’ll have the exciting opportunity to play a crucial role in preparing the site for the world-class performance of the next generation of pressurised water reactors in the UK. Your responsibilities will include authoring, updating, and reviewing operational procedures and documents, understanding their links with safety case requirements, Technical Specifications, and relevant nuclear site licence conditions.
You will work with Main Control Room operators to validate procedures using our full-scope simulator and analyze Design Changes to understand their impact on various documents. You will be part of a diverse and dedicated team helping to shape future operations at HPC.

The salary range for this role starts from £55,000 per annum. We offer a competitive benefits package, including a company pension scheme and a wide range of flexible benefits such as enhanced parental leave, electric vehicle leasing, health insurance, product discounts, critical illness insurance, technology vouchers, gym memberships, and season ticket loans.
At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility and recognize that everyone’s working needs are different. Whether in our office, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. Our priority is to ensure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.

What You’ll Be Doing
You will play a vital role in ensuring the seamless transition of our facilities from construction to operation. Your responsibilities include understanding inputs into our operational documents, ensuring procedures comply with safety case requirements, Technical Specifications, Design Changes, Human Factors, nuclear site licence conditions, and end-user feedback.
You will build relationships with stakeholders to resolve technical queries and analyze the impact of Design Changes on our documents. You will author, review, and update procedures related to Normal Operations, Fault Operations, Severe Accident operations, or Technical Specifications, depending on your experience.
Once HPC is operational, there will be further opportunities to support safe and reliable operations within the Operations Procedures Team or in other operational roles. The experience gained in this role will support your career development within the operational organization.
Who You Are
You are a proactive, analytical thinker with strong interpersonal and communication skills. You have experience developing and reviewing technical information and strive for continuous learning and improvement. You hold an HNC or equivalent in a relevant technical field.
