Position Overview:
We are seeking a motivated and safety-conscious Assistant Quarry Manager to support the efficient and safe day-to-day operations of our quarry site. Reporting to the Quarry Manager, you will help oversee production activities, ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, support the management of colleagues and contractors, and contribute to continuous improvement in operational efficiency and product quality. You will be the “Responsible Person” on site in the absence of the Quarry Manager.
Key Responsibilities
1. Assist in the planning and scheduling of production, including blasting crushing, screening and stockpiling to ensure it is carried out to the highest standard
2. Assist the Quarry Manager in overseeing quarry operations to ensure production targets are met safely, efficiently, and within budget
3. Participate in quality control procedures to ensure materials meet required standards and specifications
4. Monitor and maintain equipment and machinery through preventative maintenance schedules to reduce downtime and improve productivity
5. Keep accurate records of materials produced, stock levels, maintenance, and safety incidents
6. Help manage budgets, control costs, and assist with ordering and inventory of consumables and spare parts
7. Provide input for long-term planning, including quarry development and rehabilitation
8. Supervise and coordinate quarry colleagues and contractors, including assigning duties, monitoring performance, and promoting teamwork
9. Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations
10. Support the implementation of safety programs and conduct regular inspections and risk assessments, reporting defects
11. Deputise for the Quarry Manager when required.

12. Strong understanding of quarrying processes and plant operations
13. Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations and best practices
14. Strong leadership and people management skills
15. Competence in using quarry management systems and Microsoft Office Suite
16. Excellent problem-solving and decision-making ability
17. Effective communication and interpersonal skills
18. Strong organisational and time-management abilities
19. High attention to detail
20. Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities
21. Valid UK driver's license.
Desirable
22. Degree or diploma in Quarry Management, Mining Engineering, Geology, or a related field
23. NVQ Level 4/5 in Health, Safety & Environmental Management
