Overview
The Product Control and Financial Control teams are responsible for the financial controls and reporting of the company and it's subsidiaries. These teams sits within the wider Finance group which also includes Regulatory Reporting and Treasury.
This P&L Reporting role sits within the Product Control team and includes many responsibilities which overlap with the functions of the Financial Control team.
It is an important role in the Finance department as a member of the team responsible for the principle face off to the Front Office traders for the daily P&L reporting of the Securities and Derivatives and related queries to relevant stakeholders of revenue information.
The products covered include Equity, fixed income, derivative, ECM and DCM related activity.
Key Job Functions
1. P&L reporting principally for derivative trading desk, but also providing support to other desk reporting tasks
2. valuation of securities portfolio and P&L reconciliations
3. reporting of P&L to front office and senior management
4. of General Ledger (GL) account balances for P&L and BS for related activity
5. and post GL journal entries for daily and month end close
6. of assigned Balance Sheet accounts and responsible for monthly substantiation of GL balances
7. accurate classification of balances on the P&L account and Balance Sheet (e.g. third party and related party classification and reporting)
8. and Quarterly revenue reporting support
9. to Back Reconciliations (FOBO) and break investigation
10. with other ongoing and ad-hoc work as required to support the Finance function.
Key Skills & Abilities
11. good knowledge and understanding of the securities and derivative products generally:
12. knowledge or experience in the following areas:
13. cycle events, terminology, booking models (end to end), daily revenue production in similar roles, reconciliation experience.
14. understanding of the GL accounting entries throughout the product life cycles
15. basic understanding of IFRS & JGAAP for fair value methods
16. part or fully qualified in a professional accounting qualification
17. Excel to a very high level (e.g. macros, pivots, efficient data manipulation / processing, reconciliations)
18. to pro-actively work through problems for oneself and deliver required output
19. to meet demanding deadlines with flexibility to work extended hours with little or no notice (early starts / late finishes)
20. to self learn and navigate through systems
21. approach, attention to detail
22. confidence, keen desire and ability to identify and implement changes and improvements to processes
23. to communicate and present technical / complex matters in a simple way to various audiences
24. to work with a range of business functions
25. conduct with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
