Research Technician (OceanOmics Centre)

* Join a cutting-edge marine genomics initiative, using genomics tools to transform ocean conservation.
* Work with state-of-the-art technologies in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
* Full-time appointment on a fixed term basis for 2 years.
* Base salary range: $83,212– $92,231p.a. (pro-rata) plus 17% superannuation.

About the area

Minderoo OceanOmics Centre at UWA is a world-class research facility established through a collaboration between The University of Western Australia and Minderoo Foundation. Located in the Bayliss Building on UWA’s Crawley Campus, the Centre uses ground-breaking genomics-based research to characterise marine biodiversity. Focusing on Australia’s native marine vertebrates and regional marine ecosystems, we integrate advanced genomics infrastructure, specialist expertise, and strong collaborative networks to generate large-scale Environmental DNA (eDNA) and whole-genome sequencing datasets. Our work establishes a genomics-enabled foundation for biodiversity discovery, ecological understanding, informed conservation-management and the development of innovative biomonitoring solutions.

About the opportunity

* Support day-to-day operations of the OceanOmics Centre, including eDNA and genomics laboratory workflows.
* Collaborate with researchers, academic and professional staff to develop and optimise protocols and ensure high-quality data production.
* Contribute to the development of open-access repositories of marine vertebrate reference genomes and broad-scale marine eDNA datasets.

About you

* Tertiary qualification in science (e.g., genetics, genomics, molecular biology) or equivalent experience.
* Skilled in DNA extraction, sequencing library preparation, and use of molecular biology instrumentation.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
* Experience training others in laboratory procedures and maintaining accurate records.
* Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
