Commercial Services Manager – Environment Agency
Overview: This role supports the team overseeing the commercial governance of contracts with key consultancies and contractors. It plays a vital part in ensuring projects maximise returns on budgets, demonstrate value for money, and embed best practice through pathfinder programmes that create long‑term, collaborative partnership arrangements.
Responsibilities
* Support the Commercial Assurance and Framework Management Team in providing country‑wide support to Integrated Delivery Management teams and the wider Project Management community.
* Champion effective governance and commercial assurance to achieve the best value for money.
* Develop and manage pathfinder programmes that embed best practice and deliver for both the Agency and society.
* Build excellent relationships internally and externally, becoming an expert on contractual and commercial interpretations within a high‑performing team.
* Undertake required training and participate in incident response duties, supporting communities and preventing harm to the environment.
Experience and Skills Required
* Level 3 A‑Level qualification or equivalent.
* Skilled communicator with strong interpersonal and influencing skills.
* Stakeholder‑management experience.
* Strong data and document‑management skills.
* Commercial acumen – the ability to analyse business situations and deliver value for money.
* Administrative skills – strong organisation, minute taking and report drafting.
* Willingness to pursue long‑term professional qualifications (e.g. NEC training, CIPS) and confidence to drive development.
* Interests in infrastructure, construction or environmental programmes.
* Degree or equivalent professional qualification preferred.
* Working towards status with a recognised professional body such as ICE, CIWEM, APM, CIPS or RICS.
* Formal training in contract management (e.g. NEC, Contract Management Capability Programme).
