Summary

This apprenticeship is the Level 3 Motor Vehicle Service & Maintenance Technician (Light) standard programme with Royal Mail at their depot in Telford, TF1 1AA. The right candidate will work alongside Royal Mail’s qualified Technicians to receive extensive training in maintaining Light vehicles.

What Will You Learn?

As a Light Vehicle Technician, you’ll be stepping into a hands-on, fast-paced world where no two days are the same! Your job will fall into three main areas:

* Servicing - Keeping vehicles running at their absolute best by following key guidelines
* Maintenance - Swapping out worn parts before they cause trouble on the road
* Repair - Figuring out why a car isn’t working and getting it back to life like a pro

* Using high-tech diagnostic tools and equipment to track down and solve car issues
* Giving customer vehicles a full check-over and getting them ready for repairs

What you'll learn

Course contents

* Contribute to the maintenance of a safe and efficient workshop. Segregate waste for disposal or recycling. Comply with industry environmental legislation.
* Demonstrate due regard for own safety and that of others in the workshop and minimise risk of injury and vehicle damage.
* Carry out fundamental tasks associated with removal and replacement procedures on a vehicle.
* Obtain diagnostic and repair information.
* Interpret diagnostic information and use electrical wiring diagrams to determine system serviceability.
* Use a range of diagnostic equipment.
* Follow recognised diagnostic procedures, logical diagnostic sequence and apply advanced diagnostic principles and problem-solving techniques to establish faults.
* Report faults using company procedures and recommend suitable further actions.
* Follow recognised repair procedures to complete a wide range of repairs including those which involve complex procedures, or in depth knowledge.
* Test the function of repaired and fitted components.
* Adhere to business processes and complete documentation following workplace procedures.
* Use ICT to create emails, word-process documents and carry out web based searches.
* Complete a range of services and inspect and prepare a vehicle to the required quality standard for handover to the customer.

Your training plan

This is a Light Vehicle Technician Apprenticeship, delivered by Remit Group.

Training is delivered in the workplace and on block release at the Remit Academy in Derby. This means you will be required to stay in a hotel for 15 separate weeks (Mon - Fri) over the duration of the programme. All associated costs for training are met by the employer and there will be no cost to you.

You will also be assigned a dedicated Development Coach who will visit you every 4-6 weeks in the workplace and remotely, giving 1-2-1 information, advice and guidance.

As a result, you will receive the following qualification:

* Motor Vehicle Service & Maintenance Technician (light vehicle)
* F Gas air conditioning qualification


Requirements


Essential qualifications

GCSE or equivalent in:

English/Maths (grade A*-C 4-9)

Let the company know about other relevant qualifications and industry experience you have. They can adjust the apprenticeship to reflect what you already know.
