VAT Manager, established accountancy practice, St Albans (or Central London) hybrid, to £70,000
Providing VAT services to a range of SME businesses. Reporting directly to the partners, acting as a technical expert on VAT and Indirect tax issues in the UK and Europe.
Working for an 8-partner firm employing around 90 staff, from apprentices to experienced managers.
The business offers a full range of professional services typical of an established and progressive accountancy firm, including audit and accounts, management consultancy, payroll, and taxation. We aim to be the go-to firm for small and medium-sized enterprises, providing tailored, high-quality professional services. Our clients span various sectors, including large corporates, privately owned businesses, partnerships, sole traders, and self-employed individuals.
Role Summary
The VAT Manager leads the delivery of the firm’s VAT services, supporting managers and staff in London and St Albans, and reports to the Partners. This involves acting as a technical specialist in VAT and indirect tax matters and enhancing the firm’s offerings by identifying and maximizing opportunities with existing clients.
The role also includes developing new client relationships through networking and strategic business development.
Experience with European VAT issues and Customs Duty is essential, especially as the UK transitions out of the European Union, ensuring clients are fully advised on UK VAT matters.
Previous management experience is required, with potential for this position to lead to Directorship.
Key Responsibilities
1. Manage and develop the firm’s VAT services, contributing to business growth by providing expert advice and identifying tax planning opportunities for clients.
2. Develop internal processes and procedures related to VAT, addressing risks and improving compliance consistency.
3. Provide management support, ensuring effective work allocation, supervision, and performance feedback.
4. While 90% of work will come from existing clients, there is scope to develop a personal portfolio and expand the VAT offering, with potential progression to Director over time.
