Senior Rotational Pharmacy Technician
Join NHS to work as a Senior Rotational Pharmacy Technician. The role is either a Band 4 or 5 depending on experience and qualifications.
Job Summary
The position is a split role between the Main Inpatient Dispensary and the ward‑based Medicines Management Team. It offers a variety of experience and training:
* Dispensary – Dispensing and checking prescriptions, supervising and training new staff, providing patient advice, liaising with external Trust staff and covering the day‑to‑day running of the dispensary in the absence of the Lead Pharmacy Technician.
* Medicines Management Services – Working with ward pharmacists to check patients’ own drugs, compile medicine reconciliations, initiate further supplies, counsel patients on their medicines and perform a final check on discharge medication.
Key Requirements
* NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services (or equivalent BTEC in Pharmaceutical Science).
* Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
* Experience of pharmacy practice, dealing with the public, providing training, effective stock control and supervision.
* Desirable: National Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) qualification, Educational Supervisor training, experience in Medicines Management or hospital pharmacy, line‑management experience.
Key Responsibilities
* Work within the main Inpatient Dispensary and the Ward‑Based Medicines Management (MM) Service.
* Assist Lead Technicians in coordinating workflow, training and supervision of staff.
* Accurately dispense and deliver pharmaceuticals to patients from the RSCH Dispensary.
* Work towards and complete the ACPT qualification (if not yet qualified) and the Educational Supervisor qualification (if funding available).
* Participate in the distribution service for stock drugs and vaccines.
* Act as a role model and support NVQ candidates; provide assessment under a trained NVQ Assessor.
* Assist in training new staff across various roles (pharmacists, trainee pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, pre‑registration pharmacy technicians, assistants and primary‑care staff).
* Approve evidence for NVQ Level 2 and Level 3 trainees and ensure quality of evidence.
* Participate in induction programmes and in‑house validations.
* Undertake continuing professional development, attend study days and departmental educational meetings.
* Performance will be formally reviewed in the 1‑2‑1 professional development process.
Contract & Salary
Band 4 – Band 5 (development pathway). Salary £28,860 to £39,686 per annum pro‑rata, including high‑cost area supplement.
Contract: Permanent, Full‑time – 37.5 hours per week. Working pattern: Full‑time.
