About the role

Be part of this ‘once in a generation’ project that will deliver clean energy to 6 million homes for the next 60 years. Sizewell C will see the creation of a 3.2 Gigawatt nuclear power station on the Suffolk coast to provide reliable low‑carbon electricity.

The Civil Works Alliance is an extended delivery enterprise involving Sizewell C and three international construction companies: Balfour Beatty, Bouygues Travaux Publics and Laing O’Rourke.

We are more than just an alliance – we are bringing together a single delivery organisation with years of learning and experience from other major complex infrastructure programmes worldwide.

What you’ll be doing

The Civil Works Alliance has an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Consents Engineer on the Sizewell C (SZC) Project to support our Consents Team in discharging permit requirements relating to activities during construction on site.

The role will assist in developing & co‑ordinating the supporting information and documentation for Consent submittals. In addition, prior to construction the Assistant Consents Engineer will check all necessary Consents are in place for works and during the construction as a compliance activity they will ensure that the conditions applied to consents are being monitored and adhered to.

* Carry out regular checks, as dictated by the permit conditions, to ensure that the works are compliant with the stated permits conditions.
* Maintain effective records of how consent conditions are being adhered to and collate evidence.
* Attend, and potentially lead, permit condition briefings to the project teams prior to work commencing.
* Develop a working understanding of the contract and technical requirements of various Consents (deferring to the SZC Consents team expertise for issue of consents advice and guidance to the wider project team and response to consent‑related queries).
* Liaison with the wider CWA project team to support them in identifying where consents might be required and ensuring works remain compliant with consent conditions throughout the programme.
* Attendance to Early engagement, Pre‑Application and Consent review meetings.
* Be fully aware of the programme requirements and assist in ensuring that all activities and decisions are prioritised based on the need to minimise risk.
* Actively manage own self‑development – for example through participation in offered training courses or through ‘on‑the‑job’ training opportunities.
* Support in driving environmental consents discussions across the project team.
