Are you ready to take on an exciting and rewarding challenge in a collaborative and innovative ENT team? We are looking for 03 passionate ENT surgeons to join our growing Surgery, Theatres, Anaesthetics, and Endoscopy (STAE) Care Group at a pivotal time of expansion. The roles are based at the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH).
Overview
King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is one of the UK's largest and busiest teaching Trusts, with a wide range of local and specialist services across multiple sites. The post holder will join a multi-disciplinary ENT team at PRUH, supporting ENT services across South-East London. The role includes general outpatient care, elective and emergency surgeries for adults and children, with a sub-specialty in otology or head and neck surgery. Teaching and training of staff is included.
Key responsibilities
* Provide high quality clinical service with responsibilities for treatment and management to support the Care Group.
* Share 24/7 on-call cover for the Unit on a rota basis, including cover during colleagues’ annual leave and sickness.
* Provide clinical supervision of junior medical/dental practitioners as a shared responsibility with other consultants.
* Deliver teaching, examination and accreditation duties; contribute to CPD and clinical governance initiatives.
* Manage outpatient clinic commitments in peripheral hospitals as agreed with Care Group management.
* Contribute to Care Group research in line with the Trust's R&D framework and to audit programmes, Morbidity and Mortality, Clinical Governance and Learning from Deaths.
* Contribute to Care Group business planning and service development discussions with internal and external partners.
* Work within the contracted level of service and operating plan; provide professional leadership for all staff in the specialty.
* Support appraisal processes for peers and junior colleagues and participate in Care Group management duties as agreed with leadership.
* Ensure compliance with Trust infection prevention and control policies and maintain patient safety through evidence-based practice.
* Contribute to development of consultant-led 7-day services and future developments as required.
Qualifications and experience
Essential
* Registerable medical qualification
* Ability to function as a general ENT surgeon at consultant level
* FRCS (ENT) or equivalent specialty-specific higher degree
Desirable
* Distinctions, scholarships, prizes, or other degrees (e.g., BSc, MSc, MS); other higher degree or diploma (e.g., MD)
* Name on GMC Specialist Register on date of taking up appointment
Clinical experience
* Broad experience in all aspects of ENT surgery; evidence of training in Head & Neck Surgery or Otology
Desirable
* CER or CESR qualification; audit publications; experience in clinical research; publication of relevant reviews or case reports
Teaching and training
* Experience of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and exam preparation; teaching skills course/qualification desirable
Management and administration
* Experience in day-to-day organisation of ENT services in a busy hospital; IT skills; familiarity with the NHS structure and changes; ability to lead multidisciplinary teams
Research
* Experience of clinical research; publication of relevant articles; additional research experience desirable
On-call and duties
Each position includes a 1:4 non-resident on-call rota, with potential for weekend work in the future. The post-holder will work across Trust sites as needed and report to the clinical director and lead. The ENT department collaborates with audiology.
