Design Engineer - Homebased

Responsibilities
* Lead the design and development of fire alarm system proposals, ensuring compliance with all relevant standards and regulations, including BS 5839, CDM regulations, and other applicable codes.
* Proven ability to manage relationships and communicate effectively with Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) contractors, ensuring projects are delivered to the required standards and timelines.
* Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, effectively prioritising workloads based on project deadlines and business needs.
* Act as a customer‑facing technical expert, working alongside Business Development Managers to present and deliver tailored design proposals.
* Collaborate closely with Project Managers and installation teams to assess and negotiate installation costs for supply, installation, and commissioning projects.
* Ensure all designs and proposals are accurately costed, aligned with company margin expectations, and appropriately approved and signed off prior to release.
* Guarantee all quotations and designs are fully compliant with current legislation and industry standards, maintaining technical accuracy and integrity.
* Deliver exceptional customer service by managing design enquiries efficiently—gathering and assessing necessary information, and responding promptly to client needs.
* Provide ongoing technical support, guidance, and mentorship to team members, while coordinating with other internal departments to ensure cohesive project delivery.
* Oversee the administration of current enquiries, including the preparation of project handover documentation and maintenance of the SRM system.
Qualifications
* Proven experience as a Fire Alarm Design Engineer, ideally supported by an FIA Design Qualification or equivalent industry certification.
* Previous experience in a similar role, with a track record of liaising effectively with end users, contractors, and other stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
* Proficient in AutoCAD, with the ability to produce accurate, standards‑compliant system designs.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong focus on delivering outstanding customer service.
* Full, clean UK driving licence, enabling site visits and client meetings as required.
* Professional, relationship‑driven approach, with the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships both internally and externally.
