Job Description:
Join us, be part of more.
We’re more than an energy company. We’re a family of brands revolutionising how we power the planet. We're energisers, a team of 21,000 colleagues energising a greener, fairer future by creating an energy system that doesn’t rely on fossil fuels. We are committed to positive change in our communities. Here, you can find more purpose, passion, and potential. That’s why working here is #MoreThanACareer. We do energy differently—we do it all. We make it, store it, move it, sell it, and mend it.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Legal Counsel, Privacy and Technology to join our Legal, Regulatory Affairs, Ethics & Compliance, and Secretariat Function (LRECS). You will be part of a high-performing privacy team, reporting directly to our Group Data Protection Officer (DPO). Your role will be crucial in achieving privacy and technology objectives for Centrica Group and the broader legal function.
Your responsibilities include managing daily privacy and technology risks, providing privacy services to the commercial and technology sectors, supporting legal tasks such as assisting British Gas, and overseeing procurement. You may also deputise as DPO occasionally.
Location: We work flexibly under our Flexible First arrangements. The successful candidate must be willing to commute to Windsor weekly and to other locations as needed.
What will you do?
This role focuses on balancing clear, pragmatic privacy advice with compliance to laws governing energy supply and services.
Key accountabilities:
* Deliver high-quality, impactful privacy support, balancing risk awareness and pragmatism.
* Support operational and regulatory risk management through policies, training, and guidance.
* Assist the DPO and deputise when needed.
* Advise on data protection clauses, assessments, breach reporting, cybersecurity, and AI risks.
* Review contracts from a privacy perspective.
* Provide privacy advice on business decisions and customer journeys.
* Build stakeholder relationships across functions.
Who are we looking for?
You should be a qualified lawyer with strong knowledge of GDPR, PECR, the EU Artificial Intelligence Act, and NIS requirements. A privacy/technology certification is preferred. You need to be flexible, inquisitive, and skilled at stakeholder management, with a good understanding of privacy, AI, technology, and security law in the UK and Europe. Familiarity with the UK home energy market is a plus.
Additional desirable experience includes:
* Success in fast-paced, in-house roles.
* Drafting data protection clauses and contract input.
* Interest in privacy and technological innovation.
* Ability to simplify complex concepts.
* Pragmatic, solution-focused advice.
* Interpreting regulatory requirements and balancing risks with business goals.
Why should you apply?
We’re a people-focused organization that values flexibility and support for our employees' diverse needs. Our total rewards program offers physical, emotional, and financial support. Discover why we’re a great place to work and what being part of more means for you.
If you are energetic, passionate about sustainability, and eager to grow professionally, join us where your voice matters, your growth is prioritized, and your ambitions are supported.
Help us, help you. We encourage sharing information about yourself throughout the recruitment process to better understand you and support your journey.
