As a Software Developer, you will work within the Chief Engineering and Platform Office Platform Application Team, building high-quality, reliable, and maintainable digital services. You will contribute to the software developer community by following standard processes and sharing knowledge through community events and academy sessions. You will work as part of a DevOps team using Agile methodologies, collaborate with other developers to produce test-driven code, and advise on software engineering standards.
You will collaborate across disciplines to ensure the applications delivered help stakeholders achieve their aims, meet HMRC standards, and support the organisation’s strategic objectives while also meeting accessibility standards.
Responsibilities
* Develop software to meet user needs.
* Work with your team to provide estimates on user stories, tasks, and requirements.
* Follow standard methodology guidelines and help improve those guidelines.
* Write clean, secure, and well-tested code.
* Coach and mentor junior colleagues.
* Operate the services you build and identify issues in production.
Person specification
The role requires experience in the following essential criteria and related capabilities:
* Being confident and comfortable in developing in C#, the .NET Framework, MVC for web applications including HTML5, CSS, Bootstrap.
* Knowledge of SOLID Principles, MySQL/MSSQL relational databases, database architecture, and integrity constraints; proficient with Microsoft Office Products.
* Hands-on experience in the lifecycle development process, delivering products within specific timescales, and engaging with key stakeholders.
* Ability to work with a range of team members to record system requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
Desirable Criteria
* Experience of IT development using both Agile and Waterfall methodologies.
* Knowledge of version control systems such as Git.
