Overview
A leading infrastructure consultancy is seeking a Principal Structural Engineer to join its multidisciplinary water engineering team. This role offers the opportunity to lead the structural design on a range of water and wastewater infrastructure projects, supporting long-term frameworks with major UK utilities.
The position supports hybrid working and is ideal for an experienced engineer seeking to progress technically, mentor others, and contribute to innovative, sustainable solutions across the full project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Lead structural design and review of water-retaining structures and other infrastructure assets.
Deliver structural design from concept through to construction stage.
Collaborate with internal teams and clients to ensure coordinated and effective project delivery.
Produce and review high-quality technical documentation, including reports, calculations, and drawings.
Ensure delivery to agreed budgets, timescales, and quality standards.
Promote innovation, digital tools, and continuous improvement in project delivery.
Support and mentor junior team members, including task delegation and technical oversight. Candidate Requirements
Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
Substantial experience in structural design, ideally in reinforced concrete and steelwork.
Understanding of design codes and standards relevant to water infrastructure.
Experience using BIM and 3D digital delivery tools.
Chartered or working towards chartership with ICE or IStructE.
Strong communication skills and ability to engage with internal and external stakeholders. Benefits
