Job Description

My client is a multi-billion-pound rail contractor, at the forefront of delivering some of the UK's most significant and complex rail infrastructure projects. With a robust pipeline of work and a commitment to excellence, they are seeking a talented and motivated Freelance Project Planner to join their dynamic team in Manchester.

This is an exceptional opportunity to contribute to truly transformative multi-disciplined projects, from initial concept through to successful delivery. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the UK's rail network.

Key Responsibilities:

* Develop, maintain, and monitor detailed project schedules for complex rail projects, ensuring alignment with project objectives and deadlines.

* Utilise your expert proficiency in Primavera P6 to create robust and accurate project plans, including resource loading and critical path analysis.

* Leverage MS Project where appropriate for specific project elements or smaller work packages.

* Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to gather progress updates, identify potential risks, and propose mitigation strategies.

* Prepare and present regular project performance reports, highlighting key metrics, variances, and forecasts.

* Contribute to effective stakeholder communication regarding project timelines and progress.

* Apply your understanding of project management methodologies, including principles inspired by PRINCE2, to ensure best practices are adhered to.

Skills & Experience Required:

* Proven experience as a Project Planner within the rail or heavy infrastructure sector.

* Demonstrable expertise in using Primavera P6 for complex project scheduling.

* Proficiency in MS Project.

* Strong understanding of multi-disciplined project environments (e.g., civils, M&E, signalling, track).

* Familiarity with project management principles and methodologies (e.g., PRINCE2).

* Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail.

* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.

* Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
