The Role
We're hiring a Finance Director or Financial Controller (title dependent on experience) to build, run, and scale the day-to-day finance function.
This is a hands-on leadership role with real ownership. You'll be responsible for putting structure and control in place, while supporting a growing manufacturing business with increasing operational and financial complexity.
You'll report directly to the CEO, with functional support and mentorship from the CFO.
Key responsibilities:
Finance operations
Own all day-to-day finance activity:
• Accounting, reporting, forecasting, and cashflow
• Month-end and year-end close
• Audit and statutory reporting
Process & controls
Build finance processes from scratch, including:
• Order-to-cash
• Procure-to-pay
• Budget creation and control
• Inventory and cost accounting
Implement systems aligned with best practice and CFO frameworks
Manufacturing & supply-chain finance
Product costing and margin analysis
Inventory valuation and control
Financial support for selling, shipping, and logistics
Capex tracking and asset finance administration
Tax, cash & working capital
Execute R&D tax claims
Manage day-to-day cashflow and liquidity
Administer invoice factoring / receivables finance
Coordinate EU and US tax compliance with advisers
Wider operational support
Finance lead for:
• Procurement
• HR support (payroll, benefits, policies)
• Risk management and insurance
Team building
Hire, manage, and develop the finance team as the business scales

Qualifications:
• Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
• Relevant degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related discipline (or equivalent practical experience)
• Ongoing commitment to professional development and staying current with best practice
Knowledge and experience:
• Proven hands-on experience as a Finance Director
• Experience operating in manufacturing, construction, industrial, or logistics-heavy environments
• Track record of building and improving finance processes, controls, and systems in a growing or changing organisation
• Strong understanding of:
* Management accounting, forecasting, and cashflow management
* Inventory and cost accounting
* Statutory reporting and audit processes
• Practical experience working with external advisers (audit, tax, payroll, legal)
• Exposure to R&D tax credits, capital expenditure, and working capital management
• Experience in a scale-up or SME environment
Skills and abilities:
• Strong operational mindset, with the ability to turn data into clear actions
• Comfortable building structure from a blank sheet and improving things iteratively
• Highly organised, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities
• Confident decision-maker who takes ownership and accountability
• Able to operate effectively in ambiguity and a fast-changing environment
