DevonPathways and KernowPathways support young people that find being in a mainstream school challenging and need additional support to meet their needs through community mentoring, Forest School, Field Farm and Hub. The young people we work with may have additional needs or a specific diagnosis, or be on the pathway to an assessment to support them with neurodiversity. Our aim is to support young people back into their school or transition into a new setting. We focus on all areas of needs highlighting the Social/ Emotional needs of the young person through creating a positive professional relationship with all stakeholders to enable the young people to feel valued, respected, safe and able to engage with their learning journey. At DevonPathways and KernowPathways we develop planned activities within our community mentoring days which incorporates targeted sessions using relational approaches. All our mentors actively encourage young people to develop their core and wider skills allowing them to see positive steps forward whilst linking all work back to their identified needs and personal targets to enable successful outcomes for them. The sessions for our young people run daily from 9.30am – 2.30pm. All mentors have with an additional paid hour each day for planning, reporting, administration and training. Full training is given and shadowing is a must prior to starting with a young person. All mentors will be assigned a buddy to support their induction. Applicants from educational/childcare backgrounds are welcomed but not essential. A passion and drive for changing the lives of young people is, however, a requirement. DevonPathways implements safeguarding procedures in all aspects of their working practices and is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All successful applicants will be required to provide references and undertake an enhanced DBS check. Additional checks may also include social media checks.
