Teaching Assistant Opportunity

Are you warm, confident and ready to make a real difference in young people’s lives?

We are seeking a Teaching Assistant to join a dedicated team In Gateshead. Experience is welcome but not essential. What matters most is your personality, presence and willingness to build meaningful relationships with students.

This is a calm, structured and relationship-focused setting with high academic expectations. The school supports students across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, with a strong emphasis on literacy, personal development and GCSE achievement.

The atmosphere is purposeful and safe, with clear routines and boundaries in place. Students are supported to achieve their very best, and staff work closely together to maintain a positive, harmonious environment.

They are not searching for the most experienced TA - they’re looking for the right person. Someone who is:

* Warm, engaging and approachable
* Confident and proactive (not a wallflower)
* Comfortable building strong relationships with young people
* Positive, adaptable and open to development
* Keen to be fully involved in school life

If you naturally connect with others and enjoy being part of a supportive team, you will thrive here.

Breakfast Club & Morning Routine
Each day begins with breakfast club. Staff sit with students, talk with them and actively engage, you’re part of the community from the moment you arrive. Students arrive between 8:30–9:30am, and the school works proactively to maintain strong attendance.

Lesson Support
In class, you won’t be standing at the back. You’ll move around the room, support students in real time, help maintain focus and provide feedback. Staff use live marking approaches, with a particular emphasis on improving literacy and written communication.

Lunch & Relationship Building
Lunch is provided, and staff eat alongside students. After lunch there is time for structured social interaction — activities such as table games and consoles are used to strengthen relationships in a supervised, positive way.

Students leave at 2:15pm. You’ll remain on site until 4:30pm for reflection, admin and development time. In your first few weeks, you’ll observe experienced colleagues and gradually grow into the role.

Safety & Structure

The school operates clear boundaries and systems to maintain its calm atmosphere, including a -free policy and consistent behaviour expectations. Staff are well supported and communication across the site is strong. The environment is considered safe, orderly and professional.

Development Opportunities

Long-term staff may have opportunities to complete additional training, including de-escalation approaches. The school invests in people who show commitment and potential.

Why Apply?

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to work in education, gain valuable experience, or develop within a supportive, structured environment.

If you’re enthusiastic, confident and genuinely motivated to help young people succeed - this could be the perfect next step for you.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQs on the Protocol Education website for further details.
