Why CutMy?
CutMy is reshaping how the real world gets made. We design, cut and deliver bespoke wood and plastic for thousands of builders, makers, designers and DIYers across the UK. But we’re not just a workshop — we’re building the digital backbone of modern bespoke manufacturing. Our platform connects customers directly to machines, quotes instantly, and turns complex fabrication into a simple, beautiful online experience.
We’re already a profitable, well-established business with a loyal customer base and a growing in‑house dev team. Now we’re investing heavily in our software to modernise operations, streamline production, and bring data, automation and AI to the factory floor.
If you care about craftsmanship and clean code in equal measure, you’ll fit right in.
Our Mission
Manufacturing has been left behind by software. Most fabrication businesses still run on phone calls, PDFs and spreadsheets. CutMy is changing that — giving makers the same digital tools that transformed retail and logistics.
Our mission is simple: make custom manufacturing as fast and reliable as buying books online.
Our in‑house software is the intelligent brain of manufacturing that enables CutMy to become the “Amazon of cut‑to‑size sheet materials” – the fastest, most accurate, most efficient in the industry, ultimately running lights‑out 24/7 automated production.
By combining real‑world craft with modern software, we’re unlocking productivity, reducing waste, and letting humans focus on the work that matters — designing, building, creating.
The Role
We’re looking for a TypeScript Engineer — a midweight to senior developer ready to step up and shape both the codebase and the team to help us develop cutting‑edge manufacturing systems to drive the business.
You’ll work directly with the CTO to evolve our Next.js and TypeScript stack, mentor engineers, and drive high‑impact projects across quoting, order tracking, and factory automation.
You’ll also help define and implement our event‑driven architecture — decoupling services, introducing observability, and improving resilience as we scale. You’ll work at the frontier of software development with AI coding agents that augment our SDLC — from requirements gathering and prototyping to code generation, regression testing, deployment, and bug resolution.
It’s a hands‑on role: you’ll be writing production code, reviewing PRs, and helping re‑define our technical culture from the ground up.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead development of our internal platforms (Next.js + TypeScript).
* Help design and evolve our event‑driven architecture using modern patterns and message queues.
* Own architecture decisions and guide best practices across testing, CI/CD, and observability.
* Collaborate closely with the CTO and product lead to translate business goals into clear technical outcomes.
AI‑Powered Engineering
* Work with AI coding agents to accelerate development — automating documentation, test generation, and deployment checks.
* Contribute to defining workflows that blend human engineering with AI augmentation for efficiency and learning.
Team & Culture
* Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through pair programming and feedback.
* Establish modern development rituals — lightweight planning, trunk‑based development, and shared ownership.
* Foster a culture of craftsmanship, pragmatism, and continuous learning.
Execution & Delivery
* Ship features that improve quoting speed, order visibility, and factory efficiency.
* Keep reliability, cost‑efficiency, and code quality front of mind.
* Bridge the gap between software and the shop floor — bringing manufacturing data to life.
Core Technical Competencies
* Strong experience in TypeScript, React / Next.js, and Node.js.
* Familiar with PostgreSQL, Prisma, and event‑driven design (e.g. Kafka, RabbitMQ, or serverless event buses).
* Solid understanding of system design, API patterns, and performance optimisation.
* Experience with modern CI/CD and observability tools (e.g. Vercel, Sentry, OpenTelemetry).
* Curious about AI‑assisted development and eager to help shape how we build software alongside AI.
* Bonus: exposure to manufacturing, logistics, or e‑commerce systems.
This is our first senior engineering hire — a rare chance to help shape a modern software culture inside a real, physical business.
If that sounds like your kind of challenge, we’d love to talk. You can apply here https://form.typeform.com/to/LinrmYMi
The Process
We keep our process simple.
Application
* Submit your resume and answer a few short questions. If it looks like a fit, we’ll invite you to send a 1‑minute Loom video: tell us who you are and why you want to join CutMy.
* Quick check to align on location, motivation, and logistics. If it’s a go, we move fast from here.
* 60‑minute technical interview — We’ll cover your journey to this point and we’ll build something together. We’re looking for fluency, speed, and product sense.
* A deep dive into how you think and architect systems. We’ll walk through a real CutMy problem together.
* Final conversation — Quick vibe check, answer your questions, and scope out the work trial.
