Non-Medical Prescribing, Education&Training Strategic Lead Pharmacist role at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust.
To provide high level operational management of the department, supporting managers within the team to deliver the strategic goals of the pharmacy department across all sites. To act as the primary link between the Trust, University and Health Education England Kent Surrey and Sussex. To be accountable for providing a central focus for Pharmacy Education in service developments within the organisation.
Responsibilities
* To contribute to the operational management of the Pharmacy Board. To generate summary reports for Pharmacy Board outlining the Pharmacy Education and Training position within the Trust. To act as a delegated Pharmacy Board member when required and take a lead on specific initiatives and projects as required. To act as a delegated sponsor for the Pharmacy Board in developing supporting business cases/reports for submission. To actively manage, challenge and support clinical lead managers across traditional boundaries ensuring the planning, coordination and monitoring of service level objectives.
* To lead and support the development and implementation of innovative learning opportunities throughout the service. Ensure the service utilises sound educational principles to design, develop, implement and evaluate training programmes in all areas of Pharmacy Education. Embed a research-focused culture within Pharmacy through leading weekly/bi-weekly research focused education and training. Represent Pharmacy in the Trust research integrated leadership group and chair the Pharmacy research and audit group. Promote the completion of internal audits/projects with a focus on the efficacy of education and training to ensure that we can meet our requirements of the NHS Education Contract.
* Promote areas of identified best practice through local, regional and national networks. Ensure programmes delivered meet educational credibility and are fit for practice; implement a culture of continual evaluation within training programmes and interpret feedback received to better support trainees. Deliver regular reports to the Trust Healthcare Education Development Quality Group. Work with all staff to understand the skill mix within the Pharmacy Department and support staff development to optimise specialist knowledge, skills and experience within the service.
Education, Strategy and Lead Roles
* Assist the Trust Clinical Pharmacy Lead in developing a strategy that supports undergraduate and postgraduate education, pre and post registration training and ongoing Trust-wide training and inter-professional curricula regarding Trust objectives in staff development, learning from incidents to improve patient safety and to promote educational programmes that support patient safety and clinical excellence.
* Develop regional reputation for excellence. Act as the Trust NMP lead. This role comprises four main functions: communication, coordinating, clinical governance and support.
* The NMP lead will chair the non-medical prescribing panel and deliver/oversee objectives including: attend relevant meetings, present and publish relevant data locally and regionally, attend multidisciplinary team meetings as required, and maintain the Trust database containing details of Trust NMPs.
NMP Panel and Professional Standards
* Support all NMPs with prescribing issues/errors. Liaise with hospital staff re: NMP roles, expectations, capabilities, etc. Provide advice to doctors and nurses requesting help in prescribing. Hold responsibility for implementing relevant prescribing standards.
* Represent non-medical prescribing practitioners at senior Trust levels and in local/national fora on independent prescribing issues. Attend and provide feedback from relevant forums. Contribute to setting and monitoring prescribing standards. Help create and support the development of the independent prescribing policy.
* Attend Medicines Governance Committee for policy changes related to prescribing. Attend HEI prescribing programme board meetings, providing feedback on course programmes. Represent the Trust in HEI course development discussions and contribute to integrating pharmacy undergraduates within Trust Pharmacy departments. Advise on appropriate CPD for NMPs, with links to e-learning/resources.
