Job Description
Start here. Grow here. Are you ready to help us shape the future of the water industry? At AECOM, we're at the forefront of innovation, delivering an exceptional portfolio of water programmes and projects through long-term partnerships with key clients. We have secured places on major frameworks with the Environment Agency, National Grid, Wessex Water, Anglian Water, National Highways, Southern Water, and South West Water. In addition to our existing major infrastructure clients, we have a large pipeline of work which we would love you to be part of.
Join our dynamic and multidisciplinary Water Team as a Principal Hydrologist in one of our UK offices - whilst also taking advantage of our flexible hybrid working model. At this exciting time, you will manage resources and identify training requirements across our northern modelling teams. This role has not been previously defined and is yours to develop, with the support of a national modelling community.
Here's what you'll do:
1. Deliver: Technically lead flood hydrological assessments which are assisting the design of flood alleviation schemes, flood risk assessments, or the preparation of Environment Agency flood maps. Technically review reports documenting hydrological assessments.
2. Quality: Keep up-to-date with developments in legislation and guidelines that may affect our services and share them with the team. Apply industry standard guidance (FEH) to derive flood flow estimations for a range of catchment types throughout England.
3. Collaboration: Build relationships with clients and across other technical disciplines. Support the wider Water Team in business development activities for a wide range of clients on national and international projects.
4. Support: Mentor staff within the team in hydrological estimation to support their professional development.
5. Lead: Represent AECOM at conferences to showcase our expertise. Drive innovation within the team to deliver our projects efficiently and right first-time. Be an active member of our national community of hydrologists and hydraulic modellers.
If you're passionate about innovation and turning bold ideas into reality, we want to hear from you! Why not give our AECOM Water page on LinkedIn a follow to stay updated on the impactful projects we're working on and see firsthand the difference we're making in the industry!

Our current clients in the UK vary from local government, water companies, and private developers. We also have large contracts for Middle Eastern clients where you could be working on some of the most ambitious projects in the world.
