We are seeking to recruit enthusiastic and organised person with strong botanical ID skills (minimum FISC Level 3) to work either part-time or full-time within our busy Ecology and Nature Recovery teams. The role will have a core focus on undertaking baseline habitat surveys related to BNG habitat banks and development projects, advising on habitat enhancement and creation options, and delivering ongoing monitoring. The role will involve considerable time spent out in the field during the peak survey season (early April to end of September). The role has the option to be based out of our offices in Letchworth Garden City (Hertfordshire) and Dorney nr Windsor (Berkshire), and we will consider remote working opportunities. ​ Key Responsibilities ​ - Bring botanical expertise to our work and provide a strategic lead (based on level of experience) in this area to ensure the quality and consistency of survey output; - Carry out Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) baseline surveys to map habitats using UKHabs definitions and to assess habitat condition using BNG statutory tools. - Organise and carry out monitoring of BNG habitat banks to confirm habitat type and condition. - Produce reports presenting survey/monitoring results to meet Natural England, planning authority and other stakeholder requirements. - Contribute to the production of Habitat Management and Monitoring Plans (HMMPs), including advising on the enhancement and creation of habitats; - Regularly support our team of field surveyors in developing their botanical/habitat expertise through providing training and support​ - Collaborate with others in a constructive, open manner to develop solutions and meet deadlines.​ ​ Core skills and requirements ​ - FISC Level 3 minimum - Substantial field survey experience - Excellent report-writing skills - Confidence and ability to communicate in a professional manner - Full, clean UK driving licence and willingness to travel​ ​ Desirable skills / qualifications - FISC Level 5 or 6 - Higher qualification in a relevant subject or equivalent experience - Experience of training others in botanical ID/habitat survey - Experience surveying a variety of habitats, e.g. watercourses, wetlands - Strong GIS and mapping skills - Out-of-season surveying experience/skillsUnderstanding of UK planning system and experience undertaking work to support development projects - Professional membership of an accredited body such as CIEEM ​ The Workplace ​ The position will be based from our offices at either One Garden City (Letchworth Garden City, Herts, SG6 3BF) or Pigeon House Farm (Dorney, Windsor, SL4 6QB), and we will consider remote working opportunities. ​ Salary ​ Starting salary of between £30k to £50k per annum dependent upon candidate experience. ​ Contract Length ​ Permanent (subject to successful completion of a 6-month probationary period). ​ Working Hours ​ ​Option for the roles to be either full-time or part-time. If part-time, this would require a minimum of 3-days per week during the peak survey season (April to September).
