PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
The professional registered nurse Outpatient RN CAP 1 is an entry-level position within the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP). This role is responsible for providing and coordinating competent clinical care, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients. It may involve delegating tasks to direct care staff such as RNs, LVN/LPNs, and Patient Care Technicians. As part of the End Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) healthcare team, the nurse participates in decision-making, education, leadership, and quality improvement activities to enhance patient outcomes and facility operations.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
* Perform duties in accordance with Fresenius Kidney Care policies, procedures, nursing standards, and regulations.
* Follow guidance from supervisors, clinical educators, preceptors, and collaborate with other RNs.
* Collect and analyze patient data during hemodialysis, document findings, and adjust treatment plans accordingly.
* Assess and educate patients and families about their care and treatment options.
* Coordinate and deliver safe hemodialysis therapy in collaboration with care staff.
* Administer medications as prescribed, documenting medical justification and effectiveness.
* Assist with emergency response measures.
* Participate in staff training and orientation.
* Ensure proper laboratory procedures are followed and reschedule missed collections.
* Update nursing assessments and care plans through interdisciplinary collaboration.
* Provide patient education on transplant and treatment modalities.
* Complete all other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Includes heavy lifting, moving patients, prolonged standing, bending, and potential exposure to infectious materials. The environment is a healthcare facility with temperature control and moderate noise. Travel may be required.
Supervision
Oversight of care staff as a Team Leader or Nurse in Charge, following successful completion of training and with at least 9 months RN experience, including 3 months in hemodialysis.
Education and Licensure
* Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
* Current state licensure.
* CPR/BLS certification.
Experience and Skills
* Entry-level RN with less than 1 year of recent nephrology nursing experience.
* Preferably, 9 months of RN experience and some hemodialysis experience.
